The fractional product leadership model is fundamentally broken right now. Too many companies treat fractional Chief Product Officers like hourly contractors. They expect you to parachute in, fix their strategy and own the outcomes while only paying for ten or twenty hours a week.

But strategic leadership simply cannot be reduced to an hourly task. Setting the vision and aligning a chaotic organization takes deep focus and easily consumes the majority of a standard work week. When you agree to these terms you end up doing the equivalent of a full-time job for part-time pay. You need to hit pause before accepting a role that sets you up to fail.
Have you taken a fractional gig for the flexibility only to find yourself drowning in messages and uncompensated strategic planning? You cannot own an outcome if you are not given the mandate and the bandwidth required to actually lead.
Are you caught in the fractional trap right now?
