New Years resolutions suck. They are usually either vague (“I’m going to get fit”) or overly specific (“I’ll go to the gym every day”) — and both tend to fail.
What if we OKR’d this?
Subscribe to my weekly Nano-letter:
“Get fit” is actually a solid Objective: meaningful, inspiring, and intentionally fuzzy. The problem isn’t the goal, it’s the lack of a good Key Result.
A strong Key Results is measurable, meaningful, and updates fast enough to guide decisions. VO₂ max, reps at a given weight, or another clear fitness signal all work. Improve that number, and you’re making real progress.
The activities — running, lifting, HIIT, swimming — are just experiments. If one isn’t working or you hate it, change it. The goal hasn’t failed; you’ve just learned.
That’s the power of OKRs: a learning loop that lets you adapt, improve, and build momentum over time.
Happy New Year everybody.
