The last few months have been unusually tough for me personally and professionally. I am at a point where I need to step away, reset and recharge for a bit.

Every year I take a vacation with my family in the summer. I always want to make it longer, but it is usually no more than a week. This year, we are intentionally closing Product Culture for most of August. We announced it early to our clients because we want to normalize leaders taking real time off without apologizing for it.
The work is never completely finished. If you wait for an empty inbox to take time off, you will never leave the office. Unavailability is not an exception or flaw or an indulgence. I am learning it is a requirement for sustainable performance and protecting your capacity to do great work when you return.
Product Culture (and this Nanoletter) will be offline from August 10 to August 31. The challenges of building great product organizations will still be here in September. We will just be better equipped to solve them.
How do you set boundaries around your time off?
Hit reply and let me know how you manage it.
P.S. Before I sign off, my friends Gib Biddle and Dan Olsen are hosting the annual Product Leader Summit. It is a highly curated event for 120 VPs and CPOs. You have to apply to attend, but it is exceptional quality and highly recommended. Check it out here.
